Ministries

Small Groups

During the week, smaller groups will meet in the homes of church members to pray, worship, study the scriptures and enjoy being together.  Most church members join in these activities which are led by committed members of the church.  Learning together to grow and be transformed by God’s Word is a feature of our regular church life, as well as periodical ‘special classes’ (e.g. for those wishing to be baptised, or for stages of life such as marriage or parenthood).

Kids Church

For ages 4-10, this takes place during the Sunday morning service.  Crèche facilities are also available for younger children and babies.

Youth Group

11-16 Youth Group meets during the Sunday morning service to explore and study the Word of God in a relevant and vibrant way.  Social activities are also arranged, such as concerts, bowling and cinema visits.

Street Pastors

Ormskirk Street Pastors started in January 2011, and is part of a national initiative under the auspices of Ascension Trust.  As volunteers, we patrol regularly at weekends in Ormskirk town centre, listening, caring and helping.

School Pastors

Ormskirk School Pastors was launched in September 2019.  We support two local high schools: St. Bede’s and Ormskirk High School.  Teams patrol outside the schools offering friendship, safety and care to the pupils.

Debt Advice

West Lancashire Debt Advice is a free face to face debt advice service set up by Churches Together in Ormskirk and run from Langham hall at Emmanuel Methodist United Reformed Church, Derby Street, Ormskirk, L39 2DE.

They have client sessions by appointment twice a week:

  • Monday Evenings 7:00 – 9:00 pm
  • Thursday Afternoon 2:00 – 4:00 pm.
  • Thursday afternoons are also drop-in sessions when you can come along without an appointment.

Ormskirk Foodbank

Ormskirk foodbank was set up by the local churches to help in times of crisis by providing much needed food.  We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis.  We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

Ormskirk Ambassadors

At the request of WLBC and in conjunction with Ormskirk Street Pastors, we have a presence in Ormskirk Town Centre on market days, offering a friendly face and reassurance to local people and visitors to the town.

Community Blessings

We give gifts to encourage and bless staff in shops and new businesses in the town, as well as to people who serve our community, such as teachers, refuse collectors, station staff, hospital staff and postal workers.
